Building Community One Conversation at a Time

By: Jill Meier, Journal editor, Brandon Valley Journal

We all have a story to tell.

And that’s one of the main endeavors that we do in the community newspaper business each week is tell the stories of the communities that we serve.

But as we all know, times are changing. Our communities are changing. We’re growing. We are no longer simply “bedroom communities” positioned just a short drive’s worth from the big city of Sioux Falls and the careers that it offers.

These changes are what has led us to The L.Y.N.X. Podcast, which stands for “Love Your Neighbor.” The vision of the L.Y.N.X. Podcast is simply to build community one conversation at a time.

The first season of our podcast begins this week, and unfortunately, due to a few snags in the “technical” process, the first podcast can viewed via The L.Y.N.X. Podcast Facebook page. In the coming days, it will also be available on major streaming services, Spotify and Apple, and at 9 p.m. Fridays on the Alliance Communications cable channels 18 and 21.

This week, you’ll hear the story of “yours truly.” In upcoming weeks, you’ll hear what led Scott Tripp and Mayor Jim Heinitz to make their home in Brandon, what they love about this community and what community means to them.

Although The L.Y.N.X. Podcast is essentially a Brandon Valley Media Group product, it surely wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of John Semchenko. It was John’s idea and it was one we felt was simply too good not to do.

Season one takes us through early March, and we’re already in the process of identifying folks in the Brandon and Valley Springs communities whose stories we want you to hear. If you have any suggestions, please email me at [email protected]

Remember, we all have a story to tell, and now we get to hear it “one conversation at a time.”
